Tamar Hovhannesi Tumanyan (1907–1989) was a talented architect from Soviet Armenia. She was given a special award in 1977. This award was for being an "Honored Worker of Culture of the Armenian SSR." Her father was the famous poet and writer Hovhannes Tumanyan.

About Tamar Tumanyan

Tamar Tumanyan was born in 1907 in a city called Tbilisi. At that time, Tbilisi was part of the Russian Empire. Her parents were Olga Tumanyan and the well-known poet Hovhannes Tumanyan. Tamar was the youngest of their ten children.

She went to school in Tbilisi. She studied at the St. Gayane Girl's School. Later, she continued her education in Yerevan. She attended the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute. Today, this school is known as the National Polytechnic University of Armenia. She also studied at the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia.

Her Work as an Architect

In 1933, Tamar Tumanyan began her career. She worked as an architect in Yerevan. She joined the studio of a famous architect named Alexander Tamanian. There, she helped design important buildings.

She worked on the Yerevan Opera Theatre. This beautiful building was finished in 1939. She also helped design the Government House, Yerevan. This building was completed in 1941. After working with Tamanian, she joined another studio. She worked with architect Mark Grigorian.

Tamar Tumanyan also held important roles in the world of architecture. From 1945 to 1949, she was a secretary. She worked for the Union of Architects of Armenia. From 1947 to 1951, she led the Armenian Architectural Fund.

Later in her life, she became a director. From 1966 to 1989, she managed the Hovhannes Tumanyan Museum in Yerevan. This museum honors her father, the famous writer.
