Tania Mary Dalton (born Nicholson) was a famous netball player from New Zealand. She was born on November 26, 1971, and passed away on March 1, 2017. After she stopped playing netball professionally, Tania became a sports commentator. She worked for SKY Sports, talking about netball games. She also owned part of the Pita Pit food chain in New Zealand.

Netball Career Highlights

Tania Dalton was a key player for the Silver Ferns, New Zealand's national netball team. She played for them from 1996 to 2004, and again in 2006-2007. In 2005, she was chosen for the team but could not play due to an injury.

Playing for Clubs

Tania played for different netball clubs in New Zealand.

  • From 1998 to 2000, she played for the Northern Force.
  • Then, from 2002 to 2006, she joined the Southern Sting. This team won championships during her time there.

Winning the World Championship

Tania was part of the Silver Ferns team that won the 2003 Netball World Championships. This was a big achievement for her and the team. She played in the positions of goal shooter (GS) and goal attack (GA). Overall, she played 12 games for the Silver Ferns. In 2007, she decided to leave the Silver Ferns to spend more time with her family.

Brief Comebacks

In 2008, Tania made a short return to top-level netball. She joined the Southern Steel team as a temporary player. This was to replace an injured player named Megan Dehn. Tania did not play in any games during this time. She was also offered a short contract by the Northern Mystics team, but she did not take it.

She returned to the Southern Steel again in 2011. This happened when their shooter, Daneka Wipiiti, hurt her ankle. Tania stepped in as a temporary replacement player on February 14, 2011.

Later Life and Passing

On February 23, 2017, Tania Dalton collapsed while playing a social game of touch rugby. This happened in her home area of Takapuna, Auckland. She was taken to the hospital right away. Sadly, she passed away on March 1, 2017.
