Tanquecitos South Acres was first recognized as a CDP in the 2010 U.S. Census. It was one of nine new CDPs created from parts of the larger Laredo Ranchettes CDP. The other new CDPs included La Coma, Laredo Ranchettes West, Los Altos, Ranchitos East, San Carlos I, San Carlos II, Tanquecitos South Acres II, and Pueblo Nuevo.
