Tardun is a small town located in the Mid West region of Western Australia. It's a quiet place with a unique history, especially connected to the railway and a special school that once helped children from other countries.

History of Tardun

Tardun's story began in 1913 when people were planning a new railway line that would connect Mullewa to Wongan Hills. The town was set up right along this important railway route.

When the town was first officially recognized in 1913, it was called Undatarra. However, its name was changed to Tardun in 1925. A couple of years later, in 1927, the land lots in the town were measured and mapped out, ready for people to build homes and businesses.

The School at Tardun

A very important part of Tardun's history is the Christian Brothers Agricultural School. This school was started in Tardun in 1928. It had a special purpose: it was built to help children who had moved to Australia from Britain. These children were often called "child migrants."

The school taught these young people about farming and helped them settle into their new lives in Australia. It played a big role in the community for many years. However, after more than 80 years of helping children, the Christian Brothers Agricultural School closed its doors in 2009.
