Tart 'n' Tinys facts for kids
Tart 'n' Tinys are small, fruit-flavored candies. They are known for their tiny size and tangy taste. These candies are currently sold by Leaf Brands.
Tart 'n' Tinys were first made by the Wonka company. They came in five original colors and flavors: bluish-purple (grape), yellow (lemon), orange (orange), red (cherry), and green (lime). When they were brought back in 2015, a new light blue (blue raspberry) flavor was added.
The Original Candy
The first Tart 'n' Tinys candies were small, round cylinders. They were made from pressed dextrose, which is a type of sugar. These candies looked a bit chalky and had a firm, crunchy texture. They would crumble in your mouth, much like SweeTarts or Smarties.
In the 1980s, Tart 'n' Tinys were very popular. They were top sellers for the Wonka company, along with other candies like Nerds and Wacky Wafers. However, these original candies were stopped being made in the 1990s.
Changes Over Time
After the original candies were discontinued, Wonka introduced new versions. They launched Candy-coated Tart n Tinys. These were the same candies but with a bright, colorful candy shell. Later, they were simply called Tart n Tinys.
Wonka also made a softer version called Chewy Tart 'n' Tinys. These had the same candy coating but with a chewy center instead of a hard one. Both the candy-coated hard and chewy versions of Tart 'n' Tinys have also been discontinued since then.
A Sweet Comeback
In 2014, Leaf Brands bought the Tart 'n' Tinys name. They planned to bring the candy back to stores. Leaf Brands wanted to reintroduce the original, uncoated version from the 1970s and 1980s. They did not want to bring back the later hard-coated versions.
Leaf Brands aimed to revive the original flavors. They also planned to add new tropical and sour varieties later on. By January 2015, Tart 'n' Tinys were available again. You could buy them in large bulk amounts or in smaller 4.5-ounce packages.
