Tartu County is a special area, or "county," in the country of Estonia. The main city and capital of this county is Tartu. It is located in the eastern part of Estonia.

Exploring Tartu County
Tartu County is found between two large lakes. These are Lake Võrtsjärv and Lake Peipsi. The important Emajõgi river also flows through the county. This river connects the two big lakes.
About 10% of Tartu County's land is protected. These areas are called nature preserves. They help keep the environment safe for plants and animals. The largest of these are Emajõe Suursoo and Alam-Pedja.
