Tarzan's Treehouse facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Tarzan's Treehouse is a fun attraction you can walk through at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. It lets you explore the exciting world of Tarzan, a famous Disney character.

What is Tarzan's Treehouse?

When you visit Tarzan's Treehouse, you get to climb up into a giant tree and see how Tarzan lived. The attraction shows different parts of Tarzan's story, from when he was a baby found in the jungle to how he grew up and became the "King of the Apes." As you walk through, you'll see rooms and displays that tell his adventures.

The Amazing "Disney Tree"

Even though it looks like a real, giant tree, the tree in Tarzan's Treehouse is actually man-made! Disney's creative designers, called Imagineers, even gave it a special name: Disneyodendron eximus. This fancy name means "out of the ordinary Disney tree."

This incredible fake tree is very detailed. It has about 1,400 branches and an amazing 300,000 leaves, all made from a material called polyethylene. To make it look even more real and jungle-like, the tree is covered with live Spanish moss.

From Swiss Family to Tarzan

Before it became Tarzan's Treehouse, this attraction had a different name and theme. It was originally called the Swiss Family Treehouse. That version was based on the Disney movie "Swiss Family Robinson," which was about a family shipwrecked on an island who built an amazing home in a tree. In 1999, the treehouse was updated and changed to be all about Tarzan, bringing his jungle adventures to life for new visitors.
