Tasos Mitsopoulos (in Greek: Τάσος Μητσόπουλος) was a politician from Cyprus. He was born on May 30, 1965, and passed away on March 22, 2014. He worked in the government for many years.

He was a member of the Cypriot Parliament, which is called the House of Representatives. He served there from 2006 to 2013. Later, he became a government minister.

Early Life and Education

Tasos Mitsopoulos was born in Larnaca, Cyprus, on May 30, 1965. When he was 13, in 1978, he joined a youth group linked to the political party Democratic Rally. He stayed involved with this group until 2000.

He went to university in Greece. He studied law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. While in Greece, he also worked as an adviser for some important people.

Political Career

Tasos Mitsopoulos had a busy career in politics. From 1997 to 2005, he was the director of the office for Nicos Anastasiades. Anastasiades was the leader of the Democratic Rally party. Mitsopoulos also spoke for the party from 1999 to 2008.

He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2006. He represented the Larnaca area. He served as a Member of Parliament until 2013.

After that, he joined the government cabinet of President Nicos Anastasiades. He became the Minister for Communications and Works. This job involved looking after things like roads and communication systems.

In March 2014, there was a change in the government's ministers. Tasos Mitsopoulos was then given a new role. He became the Minister of Defence.

Later Life and Passing

Sadly, Tasos Mitsopoulos became unwell on March 21, 2014. He was found unconscious in his office. He was taken to the hospital in Nicosia. He passed away the next day, on March 22, 2014. His family, friends, and other government members were with him.

After his passing, Cyprus declared a three-day period of mourning. This is a time when people remember and honor someone important who has died.

Tasos Mitsopoulos was married. He had a son and a daughter.
