Where is Tauraroa?
Tauraroa is surrounded by other small towns. For example, Maungakaramea is about 5 kilometers (3 miles) to the northwest. Another town, Waiotira, is about 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) to the southwest. The North Auckland railway line passes right through Tauraroa. Also, the Tauraroa River flows nearby, adding to the area's natural beauty.
What Does the Name Mean?
The name "Tauraroa" comes from the Māori language. The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage has explained that the name "Tauraroa" means "long rope." This gives us a little peek into the history and culture of the area.
