Taycheedah, Wisconsin is a small community in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, USA. It is called a census-designated place, which means it's an area identified for population counting. Taycheedah is right next to the city of Fond du Lac and Lake Winnebago.
In 2010, about 704 people lived here. Taycheedah is known as the "Sheepshead Fishing Center of the World." A major road, U.S. Route 151, used to go through the community. However, a new bypass was built around Fond du Lac in the 2000s.
History of Taycheedah
Early Settlement and Name Origin
The first European settlers arrived in Taycheedah in 1839. A post office, where people could send and receive mail, opened in 1841. This post office served the community for many years. It finally closed down in 1986.
The name "Taycheedah" comes from a Native American word. It means "lake camp." This name makes sense because the community is located near Lake Winnebago.
