Taylor Cummings (born June 2, 1994) is a super talented lacrosse player. She used to play as a midfielder for the University of Maryland's women's lacrosse team. Taylor was once considered the best female college lacrosse player in the whole country! She won the amazing Tewaaraton Trophy three times, in 2014, 2015, and 2016. She also helped her team, the Maryland Terrapins, win two National Championships in 2014 and 2015.

In 2015, Taylor was even nominated for the Best Female College Athlete ESPY Award. She was also a member of the U.S. National team from 2015 to 2016. Taylor finished her college lacrosse career at Maryland in the spring of 2016 as a senior captain. Even though her team had an undefeated season, they lost the NCAA National Championship to the Carolina Tar Heels on May 29, 2016. While at Maryland, Taylor was the first person ever to win the Honda Sports Award for women's lacrosse three times. This award goes to the top player at a Division I school.

Growing Up and School

Taylor Cummings grew up in Ellicott City, Maryland. Her parents are Carol and Michael Cummings. Her dad, Michael, played soccer at the College of William and Mary. Taylor also has a younger sister, Kelsey Cummings, who played lacrosse for the University of Maryland too!

High School Achievements

Taylor went to the McDonogh School, which is a private school in Owing Mills, Maryland. While she was there, she helped her school's lacrosse team win four state championships! Her lacrosse team was undefeated in her sophomore, junior, and senior years.

Even though lacrosse was her main sport, Taylor was a great athlete in three different sports. She won two state championships in soccer and one state championship in basketball. At McDonogh, she was also a very good student, making the honor roll and the dean's list.

  • Inside Lacrosse No. 1 Rising Freshman

Taylor studied finance at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland.

College Lacrosse Career

In the fall of her senior year of high school, Taylor decided to play for the University of Maryland's women's lacrosse team. She was considered the top recruit in the country! She played as a midfielder, which is a very important position in lacrosse.

Freshman Year (2013)

In her first year at college, Taylor scored 43 goals and made 14 assists. She also had a team-high of 94 draw controls. Draw controls are when a player wins possession of the ball after a goal. She also picked up 28 ground balls and caused 21 turnovers, which means she took the ball away from the other team.

Sophomore Year (2014)

Taylor won the Tewaaraton Trophy in her second year, becoming the youngest woman to ever win this award. This award means she was the most outstanding female college lacrosse player! She started in all 24 games and had a team-high of 128 draw controls. She scored 63 goals and tied for second on her team with 24 assists and 87 points. Taylor also had 37 ground balls and caused 30 turnovers. In Maryland's National Championship win against Syracuse University on May 25, 2014, she scored three goals (a "hat trick") and had one assist.

Junior Year (2015)

Taylor won the Tewaaraton Trophy again in 2015! She led the whole country with 100 points. She was also fifth in the nation for draw controls per game and eighth for goals scored. Taylor led her team in assists (37), points (100), ground balls (41), draw controls (143), and caused turnovers (36). She started in all 22 games. In Maryland's National Championship win against the University of North Carolina on May 24, 2015, she scored three goals, had two assists, and made seven draw controls.

Professional Lacrosse

After graduating from Maryland, Taylor joined the Baltimore Ride team during the 2016 UWLX season. She played her first game on June 10, 2016. After playing in the UWLX, she became a member of the New York Fight in the Women's Professional Lacrosse League. Taylor also played in the first season of Athletes Unlimited lacrosse. She won the title of the first Athletes Unlimited lacrosse champion, earning 1,943 points!

Playing for Team USA

Taylor was a member of the U.S. team in the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship. She helped her team win a gold medal by beating Canada 11-8. Taylor was named the Tournament MVP (Most Valuable Player) and was also chosen for the All-World Team!
