Tboung Khmum (pronounced t'bong k'moom) is a province in Cambodia. It's located in the central lowlands near the Mekong River. The name "Tboung Khmum" means "Amber" in the Khmer language. It comes from two words: tboung (meaning "gem" or "precious jewel") and khmum (meaning "bee").
This province was created quite recently, on December 31, 2013. Before that, it was part of a larger province called Kampong Cham Province. The government decided to split the province into two to make it easier to manage. Suong is the capital and largest city of Tboung Khmum.
How Tboung Khmum is Managed
The province of Tboung Khmum is divided into smaller areas to help with its management. It has 6 districts and 1 municipality (which is like a city area). These are further divided into 64 communes, which are even smaller local areas.
