The Tea Research and Extension Station (TRES) is a special place in Taiwan. It's like a science lab and school all rolled into one, but just for tea! Scientists and tea experts here work hard to make Taiwan's tea even better. They study how to grow tea plants, create new types of tea, and teach people how to make and enjoy tea.
TRES is located on a 20-hectare site in Yangmei District. This area has slightly acidic soil, which is perfect for growing tea. Because of this, tea has become a very important crop here. TRES is the only professional place in Taiwan completely focused on tea study and testing. It is part of the government's Council of Agriculture.

A Look Back: The History of TRES
The Tea Research and Extension Station has a long history. It first started in 1903. Back then, it was called the Tea Manufacture Experiment Station.
Over the years, its name changed a few times. In 1968, it became the Taiwan Tea Experiment Station. It kept this name after another change in 1999. Finally, in 2003, it was renamed to its current name: the Tea Research and Extension Station.
One of the station's big successes was developing new types of tea. For example, they created a special kind of tea called Taiwan Tea No. 18. This helped make Taiwan's black tea production much stronger.
