The Theater's Story
Building and Early Years
The Teatro Princesa was designed by an architect named Jose Zacarias Camaña. It first opened its doors to the public in 1853. Imagine all the shows and performances that happened there over the years!
Changes Over Time
During the Spanish Civil War, a big conflict in Spain, the theater's name was changed to Teatro Libertad. After the war, in 1956, the building was updated and remodeled by Miguel Sanchis to make it look new and modern.
The Final Years
By 1990, the theater building was no longer used and became empty. In October 1999, some people started living in the abandoned building without permission. However, they were later asked to leave by the National Police. Sadly, on February 27, 2009, the old Teatro Princesa was completely destroyed by a fire. Today, only an empty space remains where the grand theater once stood.
