Ted Anderson's Football Journey
Ted Anderson started his football career playing for a team called Worksop Town. His talent was noticed by a bigger club, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and he joined them in December 1929.
Early Days and First Clubs
Ted made his first league appearance for Wolverhampton Wanderers on March 11, 1931. His team won that game 3–0 against Port Vale. However, he only played three games for the club during that season.
In December 1931, Ted moved to Torquay United. He played his first game for them on Boxing Day, which was a 3–1 loss to Queen's Park Rangers. He quickly became a regular player for Torquay United.
During his time at Torquay, the team finished 10th in Division Three (South). This was their highest finish ever at that point. In June 1933, Ted joined West Ham United, a team in the Second Division. He played 26 league games for them and scored 2 goals.
Moving to Chester and Tranmere
After two years at West Ham, Ted moved to Chester in June 1935. He played 23 league games for Chester before joining Tranmere Rovers in July 1937.
At Tranmere Rovers, Ted helped the team win the Third Division (North) title in his very first season. His debut game for them was a big 5–0 win against Carlisle United on September 18. The next year, the team was moved back down a division, but Ted only played 7 games that season.
War Years and Later Career
The Second World War paused many football careers, including Ted's. However, he played more often for Tranmere Rovers after the league started again in 1946. He ended up playing a total of 73 league games for the club.
His last league game for Tranmere Rovers was on March 27, 1948. He played as a right-back in a 3–2 home loss to Stockport County. During the war, Ted also played as a guest player for other teams like New Brighton and Wrexham.
After he stopped playing, Ted Anderson worked as a coach. He was part of the coaching staff at both Tranmere Rovers and Stockport.
