Edward Hardy Harrison (born August 28, 1926, died January 16, 2015) was a famous artist. He was born in England but became Canadian. He is best known for his colorful paintings of the Yukon in Canada.

Ted's Early Life and Learning
Ted Harrison was born in Wingate, County Durham, England, in 1926. He loved art from a young age. He began painting at the West Hartlepool School of Art in England.
Even though a war interrupted his studies, Ted finished his art training. He earned a special diploma in design in 1949. Later, he got a teaching certificate from the University of Durham. He also earned a degree from the University of Alberta. Ted then became a teacher for almost 30 years.
His Artistic Journey
In 1968, Ted Harrison moved to the Yukon in Canada. This place became very important in his art. He lived there until 1993. His paintings from this time show the bright colors and unique culture of the Yukon.
From the 1970s, Ted worked as an artist, illustrator, and author. He even made history by being the first Canadian artist chosen for an international children's book exhibition in Italy. He illustrated a famous poem called "The Cremation of Sam McGee" by Robert W. Service. Ted's art often showed familiar things in a new and interesting way.
In 1987, Ted Harrison was given a special award called the Order of Canada. This award recognized his amazing contributions to Canadian culture. He also received honorary doctorates from several universities, including Athabasca University and the University of Alberta. He became a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
Ted's Personal Life
Ted Harrison's wife, Nicky, passed away in 2000. She had Alzheimer's disease. After her death, Ted helped raise money for organizations that support people with Alzheimer's. Ted Harrison died peacefully in his sleep on January 16, 2015, when he was 88 years old.
Ted's Art Collection
In 2011, Ted Harrison gave his personal collection of art and papers to the University of Victoria's Library. This means students and researchers can learn from his work.
