Theodore "Ted" McClain (born August 30, 1946) is a former American professional basketball player. He played as a guard and was known for his strong defense. Ted played for eight seasons in two major leagues: the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Ted McClain was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He grew up loving basketball. He became a talented player during his school years.
College Basketball Star
Ted played college basketball at Tennessee State University. He was a standout player there. In 1970, his team reached the finals of the NCAA College Division tournament. Even though they lost, Ted was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. This showed how skilled he was.
Starting His Pro Career
After college, Ted was chosen by two different professional teams in 1971. The Atlanta Hawks picked him in the NBA draft. The Carolina Cougars picked him in the ABA draft. Ted decided to start his career with the Carolina Cougars in the ABA.

Ted McClain played for several teams during his career. In the ABA, he played for the Carolina Cougars, Kentucky Colonels, and New York Nets. When the ABA merged with the NBA, he joined NBA teams. These included the Denver Nuggets, Buffalo Braves, Philadelphia 76ers, and Phoenix Suns.
