Hospital History
Early Beginnings
The hospital first opened its doors in 1875. Back then, it was called the Teddington and Hampton Wick Cottage Hospital. A man named Thomas Chappell helped by giving the land. He was famous for his music publishing and piano making business. Existing houses on the site were changed to become the new hospital.
A New Memorial Hospital
In 1929, a brand new hospital building took its place. This new hospital was named the Teddington, Hampton Wick and District Memorial Hospital. It was built to remember the brave people who died in the First World War.
The first stone for the new building was laid in 1928. This important event was done by Lord Dawson of Penn. He was a doctor who looked after the British Royal Family. By 1931, the hospital's name became shorter, simply Teddington Memorial Hospital.
Who Runs the Hospital?
For a while, from 1993 to 2001, the hospital had its own group called Teddington Memorial Hospital and Community NHS Trust. Today, the hospital is run by the Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust. They make sure the hospital provides good care to the community.
