Teddy Stadium (Hebrew: אצטדיון טדי, Itztadion Teddy) is a famous football stadium in Jerusalem, Israel. It is the home field for two big football teams: Beitar Jerusalem F.C. and Hapoel Jerusalem F.C.. The stadium is named after Teddy Kollek, who was the mayor of Jerusalem for a long time.

Before Teddy Stadium, Beitar Jerusalem played at the YMCA Stadium. People called that old stadium "The Sandbox." This was because its playing field was not in good shape. Teddy Stadium changed things for the better.

Welcome to Teddy Stadium!

Teddy Stadium is one of the newest and best stadiums in Israel. It meets all the high standards for football fields in Europe. This means it is a great place for players and fans. The stadium has many parking spots, about 5,000 in total. It is also connected to the Malha Mall by a special bridge for walking.

You can easily get to the stadium. It is located near the Begin Expressway. There is also the Malha Train Station nearby. This means people can come to games by car or by train.

Who Was Teddy Kollek?

The stadium is named after Teddy Kollek. He was a very important mayor of Jerusalem. He served as mayor for many years. He helped Jerusalem grow and become a modern city. Naming the stadium after him honors his work.

Growing Bigger: The Stadium's History

When Teddy Stadium first opened, it only had two main sections. These were the west and east sides. At that time, it could hold about 13,000 people. In 1999, a new section was added on the north side. This made the stadium much bigger. Its capacity grew to 21,600 seats.

Later, the city of Jerusalem decided to make it even larger. They wanted to increase the stadium's capacity to 34,000 seats. This was done by 2013. The extra seats were needed for big events. These included the UEFA European Under-21 Championship and the Maccabiah Olympic Games.

More Than Just Football

Teddy Stadium is known for its amazing atmosphere. The stands are very close to the playing field. This makes fans feel like they are part of the game. The sound inside the stadium is also excellent. Because of this, the stadium has hosted many important matches. These include games for the Israel national football team.

Besides football, Teddy Stadium hosts other major events. It was the place for the opening ceremony of the Maccabiah Games. These games are a big international Jewish sports event. The stadium also holds other public events and concerts.
