The Story of Tenmile
The name "Tenmile" has a cool story behind it! Back in the old days, a pioneer (someone who was among the first to explore and settle a new area) was moving his cattle (farm animals like cows) from a place called Happy Valley in Douglas County. He drove them to the area we now know as Tenmile Valley.
Guess what? The distance between Happy Valley and Tenmile Valley was about 10 miles! That's how the community got its name. The post office was first set up in 1870 and was called "Ten Mile." Later, in 1918, the name was officially changed to "Tenmile" as one word.
