Tenpuku facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Tenpuku (pronounced Ten-poo-koo) era was a short period in Japanese history. It was a special "year name" or nengō used to count years, much like how we use "2023" or "2024" today. This era came after the Jōei era and before the Bunryaku era.

The Tenpuku era began in April 1233 and ended in November 1234. During this time, the reigning emperor of Japan was Shijō-tennō (四条天皇). He was a young emperor who ruled from the imperial palace in Kyoto.

Key Events of the Tenpuku Era

During the Tenpuku era, not many major events were recorded. However, one important political appointment happened:

  • 1233 (Tenpuku 1, 1st month): A powerful leader named Kujō Yoritsune was given an important government job. He became a Middle Counselor (中納言, Chūnagon). This was a high-ranking position in the Japanese court. It meant he helped the emperor make important decisions for the country.
