The Terepaima National Park (also called Spanish: Parque nacional Terepaima) is a special protected area in Venezuela. It's like a big natural reserve! You can find it in the mountains of the Lara and Portuguesa states. It is southeast of the city of Barquisimeto.
This park was created on April 14, 1976. Its main goal is to protect the amazing plants and animals that live there. The park covers a large area of 18,971 hectares.
Climate and Plants
The weather in Terepaima National Park is usually warm. Temperatures range from 19 to 26 degrees Celsius. This is about 66 to 79 degrees Fahrenheit.
In the higher parts of the park, you will find a type of forest called a cloud forest. Here, trees like mountaineers, salvio, and mountain manzanita grow tall. You can also see many different kinds of ferns.
Animals of Terepaima
Terepaima National Park is home to many interesting animals. Some of these animals are even endangered, which means they need special protection.
Mammals
You might spot several mammals in the park. Some are quite rare, like the front and jaguar bear. Other mammals include armadillos (called cachicamos), pacas (lapas), and opossums (rabipelados).
There are also different types of monkeys, such as howler monkeys (araguatos) and capuchin monkeys. Other animals include skunks (mapurites), ocelots (cunaguaros), deer, tapirs (dantas), honey bears (meleros), pumas, and peccaries (báquiros).
Birds
The park is a great place for birdwatching. You can see many beautiful birds flying around. Some common birds are tortolites, guacharacas, and the tufted paují.
Other birds include the white moriche, cristofué, and the llanera paraulata. You might also hear the querrequerre and see the stone-crested paují.
Reptiles
Be careful where you step, as some reptiles live here too. You might find snakes like the rattlesnake and the mapanare. There is also a type of snake called the hunting tigra.
