Termas de Río Hondo is a special city in Santiago del Estero Province, Argentina. It is known as a "spa city" because of its amazing hot springs. In 2010, about 32,116 people lived there.
The city is located right next to the Dulce River. It is about 65 kilometers (40 miles) north of Santiago del Estero, which is the capital city of the province. You can also find it close to the large artificial Río Hondo Lake.
Hot Springs: Nature's Warm Pools
The main reason people visit Termas de Río Hondo is its natural hot springs. These springs are called termas in Spanish. In the local Quechua language, they are known as yacu rupaj, which means "hot water."
The water in these springs is naturally warm, usually over 30°C (86°F). Many people believe these warm waters are good for your health. They are often recommended to help with things like high blood pressure and rheumatism, which affects joints and muscles.
You can enjoy these warm waters at two public pools in the city center. They are called La Olla and the Pileta Municipal. There are also many hotels and restaurants in the area where visitors can relax and enjoy the city.
Modern Attractions and Sports
In recent years, Termas de Río Hondo has added some exciting new places. A brand new Las Termas Airport was built, making it easier for people to visit.
The city also has a fantastic racetrack called Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo. This track was completely rebuilt to host big international races. Since April 2014, it has been a stop for the MotoGP World Championship, where the best motorcycle racers compete.
The city has also been part of the famous Dakar Rally. This tough off-road race passed through Termas de Río Hondo in both 2015 and 2016.
