Tessa Worley was born in Annemasse, France. Her father is Australian, and her mother is French. This means Tessa has citizenship in both France and Australia. She grew up loving to ski all year round. She would ski in France during the winter and in New Zealand when it was summer in France. Her home ski area is the beautiful Le Grand-Bornand resort.

Starting Her World Cup Career

Tessa began her professional skiing journey in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup when she was just 16 years old. This was in February 2006. In her very first race, a giant slalom in Germany, she finished in 29th place. This was a great start for a young skier!

By October 2008, she showed how talented she was. She finished fifth in a giant slalom race in Austria. Just one month later, she achieved her first big win. She won a giant slalom race in Aspen, United States. This was her first time on the podium, meaning she was one of the top three finishers.

Winning Gold Medals

The 2010–2011 season was amazing for Tessa. She won three giant slalom races in a row before January 2011. Her success continued at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 in Germany. There, she won a gold medal in the team event. She also earned a bronze medal in the individual giant slalom race.

Two years later, at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 in Austria, Tessa made history. She won both runs of the giant slalom race. This made her the world champion in that event!

Dealing with Injuries

Skiing can be tough on the body. In December 2013, Tessa had a serious injury. This happened just two days after her eighth World Cup win. She was competing in a slalom race in France when she fell. She badly injured her right knee. This injury meant she could not compete for the rest of the 2014 World Cup season. It also kept her from participating in the 2014 Winter Olympics.
