Tetsu Sugiyama (杉山 哲, Sugiyama Tetsu, born June 26, 1981) is a Japanese football player. He plays as a goalkeeper, which means his main job is to stop the other team from scoring goals. He has played for several important clubs in Japan during his career.

Early Football Journey

Tetsu Sugiyama was born in Kumamoto, Japan. He started his football journey in high school, playing for Kumamoto Kokufu High School from 1997 to 1999. After high school, he continued to play football while attending Fukuoka University from 2000 to 2003. This early training helped him prepare for a professional career.

Playing for Kashima Antlers

Sugiyama began his professional career in 2004 with Kashima Antlers, one of Japan's most successful football clubs. He stayed with the Antlers for eight seasons, until 2011. During his time there, even though he didn't play in many league matches, he was part of a very successful team.

Championship Wins with Antlers

With Kashima Antlers, Sugiyama helped the team win several major championships. They won the J1 League three times in a row, from 2007 to 2009. They also won the J.League Cup in 2011 and the Emperor's Cup twice, in 2007 and 2010. These wins show he was part of a strong and winning team.

Time with Consadole Sapporo

In 2012, Sugiyama moved to Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo. He played for this club for six seasons, until 2017. During his time with Consadole Sapporo, he played in 49 league matches. This was a period where he got more opportunities to play in important games.

Moving to J2 League

After playing in the top division (J1 League) for a year with Consadole Sapporo, the team moved to the J2 League in 2013. Sugiyama continued to be an important player for them in this league. He played in 38 matches during the 2013 season.

Current Club: Tokyo United FC

Since 2018, Tetsu Sugiyama has been playing for Tokyo United FC. He continues to play as a goalkeeper for this team. As of the end of the 2018 season, he had played in 17 matches for Tokyo United FC. He is still an active player, contributing his experience to his current club.
