Te-mari'i-a-Teurura'i Ma'i-hara Te-uhe (born 1840 – died August 21, 1891) was a queen from Polynesia. She ruled the kingdom of Huahine from March 18, 1888, to July 22, 1890. She was known by her reign name Teuhe, and sometimes called Teuhe II. She was a member of the Teururai royal family of Huahine.
Who Was Queen Teuhe?
Teuhe was a princess who became queen of Huahine. Her full name was Te-mari'i-a-Teurura'i Ma'i-hara Te-uhe. She was born around 1840 in Téfareri'i, Huahine.
She was the oldest daughter of Queen Teha'apapa II and King Ari'i-mate of Huahine. Her family was very important in the history of the island.
Her Time as Queen
Teuhe became queen during a time of big changes in Huahine. On February 22, 1888, she was declared Queen Teuhe. This happened during an uprising against France.
She ruled for a little over two years. On July 22, 1890, she left Huahine and went to Tahiti. She sought protection there from her former husband, Pōmare V.
Her Marriage
Teuhe married Pōmare V, who was the King of Tahiti. They were married in Huahine on November 11, 1857. Pomare V was the oldest son of Pōmare IV, who was the Queen of Tahiti.
Teuhe and Pomare V divorced on August 5, 1861. They had one son and one daughter together.
Later Life and Death
Queen Teuhe passed away on August 21, 1891. She died in Papeete, which is located in Tahiti. She was buried in Arue, Tahiti.
