Beginning a Music Career
Getting Started in Rap
Around 1996, while still in high school, Tha City Paper started getting interested in rap music. He knew a local rapper named Pistol and would often listen to Pistol's group, "PJN," as they recorded their songs.
This inspired him to start rapping, and he eventually joined the group. He appeared on many of Pistol's songs, which helped him become more well-known. He wrote songs like "City Paper (... boy swagg)" and "Lil Bo Tuff" for his first album, Paper View, which he released by himself.
In 2011, he released a collection of songs called a mixtape. It was titled DOPaminE and was presented by DJ Scream.
Joining Ca$hville Records
The famous rapper Young Buck heard Tha City Paper's DOPaminE mixtape and was very impressed. In 2012, Young Buck signed him to his record label, Ca$hville Records. A record label helps artists record, share, and sell their music.
That same year, Tha City Paper and Young Buck worked together on a mixtape called G.a.S - Gangsta and Street. This was the first major project Tha City Paper released with Ca$hville Records.
