Early Achievements
Before the 1904 Summer Olympics, Thaddeus Shideler was a very fast hurdler. He competed for Indiana University.
Unofficial World Record
About a month before the 1904 Olympics, Thaddeus set a very fast time. He ran the 100 meters hurdles in 15.0 seconds. This time was considered an unofficial world record.
Why it was Unofficial
For a record to be official, several timers must record the exact time. In Thaddeus's race, one of the three timers had a problem. Their stopwatch did not start correctly. Because of this, his amazing time could not be officially confirmed as a world record.
