Exciting Plot Summary
The story begins in 1848 in Boston. A young girl named Arabella Flagg loses her parents. Her younger brother, Jack, and their former butler, Eric "Bullwhip" Griffin, decide to sneak onto a ship. They are heading to San Francisco, where the exciting gold rush has just started. Eric finds a job as the ship's cook during their journey.
On the ship, they meet a tricky person named Judge Higgins. He is a swindler and a thief. Judge Higgins steals a special map to a gold mine from Quentin Bartlett, who is an actor traveling on the same ship. Eric, Jack, and Quentin all decide to chase after the dishonest judge. Meanwhile, Arabella arrives in San Francisco. She starts working as a dancehall girl to earn money.
Eric "Bullwhip" Griffin soon faces a big, strong bully called Mountain Ox. Eric surprises everyone by throwing a punch that knocks the bully down! Because of this amazing moment, "Bullwhip" becomes Eric's new nickname. Inspired by his unexpected strength, Bullwhip enters a prizefighting match. He wins the fight and earns a lot of money. He also wins Arabella's heart. Judge Higgins is finally caught trying to steal the money from the fight. He is put in jail, and many angry people gather outside.
