The Story of The Borrowers

The Clock Family are called "borrowers." They are very small people who live in the homes of regular-sized humans. They call humans "human beans." Borrowers survive by taking small things they need from the big people. They try very hard to keep their existence a secret.

The main characters are a teenage borrower girl named Arriety Clock. Her parents are Pod and Homily. One day, Arriety goes on a borrowing trip with her father. She does something against borrower rules. Arriety becomes friends with a human boy who lives in the house.

The tiny family lives under the kitchen floorboards of an old manor. But eventually, the humans in the home discover them. Because they are found, the Clock Family must leave their home. They are forced to flee into the English countryside.
