About the Book
The Clue in the Embers is the 35th book in the original The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories collection. These books were first published by Grosset & Dunlap.
Who Wrote It?
This book was written for the Stratemeyer Syndicate by John Almquist in 1955. The Stratemeyer Syndicate was a company that hired different writers to create popular children's book series. These writers often used a pen name, like Franklin W. Dixon for the Hardy Boys.
Later Changes to the Story
Between 1959 and 1973, many of the first Hardy Boys books were updated. This project was led by Harriet Adams, who was Edward Stratemeyer's daughter. The original version of The Clue in the Embers was made shorter in 1972 by Priscilla Baker-Carr. Because of these changes, there are two slightly different versions of the story, even though they have the same title.
What's the Story About?
In The Clue in the Embers, the Hardy brothers, Frank and Joe, face a new challenge. They are trying to solve the mystery of two missing medallions. These medallions were part of an old collection of interesting objects that someone inherited.
The Mystery Begins
Their search for the missing medallions leads the Hardys to a faraway, empty place in Guatemala. This area is said to be cursed by some local people. They warn Frank and Joe not to visit it.
Facing Danger
Despite the warnings, the brothers find themselves in a dangerous situation. They encounter a group of tough people who are planning to steal a very important national treasure. Frank and Joe must use all their detective skills to outsmart these criminals. Other people are also looking for the treasure, making the mystery even more complicated and exciting.
