The Clue of the Broken Blade is an exciting mystery book. It is the 21st story in The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories series. This book was first published by Grosset & Dunlap.
The original book was written in 1942 by John Button. He wrote it for the Stratemeyer Syndicate. This was a group that planned and wrote many popular children's book series. Later, many Hardy Boys books were updated. The Clue of the Broken Blade was rewritten in 1970 by Richard Deming. This means there are two different versions of the story with the same title!
The Story of the Book
Revised Edition Plot
In the revised story, the Hardy Boys learn about a special family sword. Their fencing teacher, Ettore Russo, tells them about it. The sword is called Adalante. It is a championship saber.
The boys then travel to California to find the sword. Half of the sword is missing. The owner's will is supposedly written on the sword. This will names the fencing instructor as a main heir. This means he would get a large part of his deceased grandfather's money. Other people also want to find the sword. They try hard to stop the Hardy Boys from getting there first.
Original Edition Plot
In the original story, Frank and Joe travel with their father. Their dad, Fenton Hardy, is a detective. They go to a town two hours from Bayport. Their mission is to stop a group of criminals. This group is involved in truck hijacking.
The Hardy Boys also need to get back two stolen swords. These swords belong to a rich shipping businessman named Arthur Barker. The brothers help their father solve this exciting case.
