Story of the Film
The movie is about a real person named Henriette Delille. She was born in 1813 in New Orleans. Her family was very well-known and respected. Henriette was a free woman of color, meaning she was not enslaved.
At that time, some families hoped their daughters would form relationships with wealthy men. This was a common path for some women in her community. However, Henriette had different plans for her life. She chose a path that was very different from what her family expected.
