The Dayton Biltmore Hotel is a famous old building in downtown Dayton, Ohio. It's located where First and Main Streets meet. Built in 1929, it was once a very important hotel. Later, it was changed into apartments and shops. In 1982, it was recognized as a special historic place by the government. This means it's protected because of its history and design.

The Biltmore Hotel's Story
Building a Landmark: 1929
The Dayton Biltmore Hotel opened its doors on November 16, 1929. It was designed in a style called Beaux-Arts. This style was very popular back then. The building has a cool outside look with dark brown bricks and white terra cotta.
The architect who designed it was Frederick Hughes. He also designed other famous buildings nearby. The Biltmore was one of the tallest buildings in Dayton. It was thought to be one of the best hotels in America. Many famous people stayed there, including President John F. Kennedy and singer Elvis Presley.
Changes Over the Years
The Biltmore Hotel has had a few different owners and names.
- It was first run by Bowman-Biltmore Hotels.
- In 1946, Hilton Hotels bought it.
- Then, in March 1965, it became a Sheraton hotel. Its name changed to the Sheraton-Dayton Hotel.
- In 1974, it left Sheraton and was called the Biltmore Towers Hotel.
- In 1981, the building was changed into apartments for older people. It was then named Biltmore Towers.
- On February 3, 1982, the Dayton Biltmore was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's a special building because of its amazing design.
Living and Shopping at the Biltmore
Apartments for Seniors
The Biltmore building has eighteen floors. It has been updated many times over the years. The biggest change happened in 1981. That's when it became apartments for people aged 55 and older.
Today, the building has 230 apartments. They range from one to two bedrooms. It's known as Biltmore Towers - Senior Living. The building is right next to the Great Miami River. It's also close to fun places like Riverscape Metropark and the Victoria Theater.
Shops and Businesses
Besides the apartments, the Biltmore also has seven spaces for shops. These spaces are on the ground floor.
Some of the businesses there now include China Royal Restaurant and Liberty Tax Services. In the past, there was a Wendy's restaurant and a doctor's office.
