The Dunes Club is a special, private beach club. It is located at 137 Boston Neck Road in Narragansett, Rhode Island. The club covers about 28 acres of land. It sits right on Narragansett Bay, with the Pettaquamscutt River to its north.
History of The Dunes Club
The main building at The Dunes Club is a large clubhouse. It was designed in the Colonial Revival style. This means it looks like old American colonial homes. The clubhouse was built in 1939.
The club had an earlier clubhouse built in 1928-1929. But a very strong storm, the New England Hurricane of 1938, washed it away. Only the club's gatehouse survived that big storm. The club also has tennis courts and small changing rooms called cabanas.
The Dunes Club was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. This means it is an important historical place.
In 2016, a car crashed into the gatehouse. The club manager and his family were inside. Luckily, no one was hurt. The gatehouse had a lot of damage from the crash and water.
