Story of the Genie Family
The story begins when a boy named Kan finds an old, magical bottle in his house. Inside this bottle live a clumsy genie named Hakushon and his mischievous daughter, Akubi.
Here's how their magic works:
- If someone sneezes, Hakushon pops out of the bottle. He then has to grant that person's wish.
- If someone yawns, Akubi appears. She also has to grant the yawner's wish.
Getting a wish from these genies can be tricky! Hakushon often messes up wishes because he's so clumsy. Akubi, on the other hand, is very clever. She likes to twist people's words, making wishes come true in unexpected and sometimes funny ways. This often leads to silly problems for Kan and his family.
Different Names Around the World
The Genie Family has been shown in many countries with different names. In 1992, Saban Entertainment made an English version called Bob in a Bottle. They even made a reggae-style theme song for it!
In Bob in a Bottle:
- Hakushon was called "Bob".
- Akubi was called "Illana".
- Kan was called "Joey".
This English version was shown in Canada, Kenya, Australia, Zimbabwe, and New Zealand. It had a fun motto: "Make everyday like paradise" and "You sneeze, I please, that's the way it goes." The show was also popular in other places:
- In Latin America, it was known as Yam Yam y el Genio.
- In Italy, it was called "Il Mago Pancione Etcì".
- In Arabic-speaking countries, it was called El Fatah Borhan.
