The Globe Pequot Publishing Group is a company that publishes books. It started in 1949 in the United States. This company is independent, meaning it's not owned by a larger corporation.

They publish many different kinds of books. These books often focus on specific regions or interests. The company also used to own a book distribution business called National Book Network. This business helped get books from publishers to stores.

History of the Company

The company we know today came together over time. In 1988, a company called the University Press of America bought Rowman & Littlefield. After this, the main company started using the Rowman & Littlefield name.

In 2013, a related company opened in London. This company, Rowman & Littlefield International, publishes academic books. These books are for college students and experts. They cover subjects like Philosophy and Politics.

In 2014, Rowman & Littlefield bought another company called Globe Pequot Press. This added more types of books to their collection.

The company also supports an award. It's called the Rowman & Littlefield Award in Innovative Teaching. This award is for teachers in political science. It celebrates new and creative ways to teach the subject. The American Political Science Association gives out this award every year.

A big change happened on May 29, 2024. Rowman & Littlefield sold its academic book business. They sold it to another publisher called Bloomsbury Publishing. This sale did not include most of their trade books. Trade books are those sold to the general public. It also did not include their school publishing business or the National Book Network.

After this sale, the company changed its name. It became The Globe Pequot Publishing Group. This new name came from one of the trade book brands they kept.

Later, in September 2024, The Globe Pequot Publishing Group sold Sundance Newbridge. This was their school publishing business. It was sold to Lerner Publishing. The company also announced plans to close National Book Network. They plan to move book distribution to Simon & Schuster Distribution Services in the second half of 2025.

What are Imprints?

Publishing companies often have different "imprints." Think of an imprint like a brand name. It's a special name under which a publisher releases certain books. Each imprint might focus on a different type of book. For example, one imprint might publish travel guides. Another might publish cookbooks.
