Exploring The Green Bowl
The Green Bowl is a unique natural area. It's often described as a calm and beautiful spot. Long ago, it was used as a place where horses could graze and be kept safe.
What Makes It Special?
This amazing gorge has a few cool features:
- Its ends narrow into tight rock openings. These could even be closed off with poles to keep animals from wandering away.
- A stream flows through the entire length of the bowl. In the middle, the stream gets wider, forming a small pond.
- Tall rock cliffs, about 60 feet high, line both sides of the bowl.
- The whole area is about half a mile long.
How It Got Its Name
The name "The Green Bowl" was given by a woman named Isobel McNaught Perry. She was from Beaverlodge, Alberta. She named it many years before the Monkman Pass Highway was built between 1937 and 1939. The name perfectly describes this green, bowl-shaped valley.
