History of The Lace Guild
The Lace Guild started in 1976. This was because many people became interested in lacemaking again. Lacemaking has been a craft in Britain since the 1500s! The first leader was Doreen Wright. In 1985, The Lace Guild got its own special home. This home is called 'The Hollies' and is in Stourbridge.
In 2001, The Lace Guild turned 25 years old! They celebrated by publishing a book about their journey. In 2009, The Lace Guild Museum became an official, recognized museum.
Joining The Lace Guild
The Lace Guild is based in Britain. However, anyone from any country can join! Members get to choose a special committee. These committee members help run the charity. They serve for three years. The committee shares updates with members every year. This happens at their yearly meeting.
What The Lace Guild Does
The Lace Guild creates a magazine called Lace. Members get this magazine four times a year. The Lace Guild also publishes books. Many of these books teach people how to make different types of lace. They even have a system to check the quality of lace made by members.
The Lace Guild has a very large library. Members in Britain can borrow books from it. Their website also has lots of information. You can learn about the history of lacemaking there. They also organize classes and a summer school. They have a big meeting every year. Every three years, they hold a competition for lacemakers.
The Lace Guild Museum
The Lace Guild's home, 'The Hollies', has a huge collection of lace. It also has other items related to lacemaking. They show different parts of their collection in special exhibitions. These exhibitions change every three months. Anyone can visit these displays on Fridays. You do not have to be a member.
If you want to visit on other days, you need to make an appointment. This is also true for large groups. If you want to see a specific piece of lace, you can arrange that too.
The Lace Guild also has an email service. It's called 'Artefact of the Month'. Each month, they send you a picture of an interesting item from their museum collection.
