What is Steampunk?

Steampunk is a super creative style of art and fashion. It mixes old-fashioned ideas from the 1800s (like steam-powered machines) with futuristic inventions. Think of gears, cogs, brass, and lots of imagination! People who love steampunk often create incredible costumes, gadgets, and art that look like they came from a Victorian-era science fiction story.

A Place for Steampunk Art

The Libratory, now called the Gadgetorium, was a special spot for steampunk artists. It was a place where they could display their unique creations. Imagine seeing sculptures and artworks that look like they belong in a world powered by steam!

Where to Find It

You can find this interesting place on the first floor of the Woolstore building. It's right next door to another famous steampunk spot called Steampunk HQ. Both are located in Oamaru, a town in New Zealand known for its steampunk culture.

Fun Events and Gatherings

When it was The Libratory, the gallery used to host monthly "swap meets." These were like special gatherings where steampunk fans from the area could meet up. They would share their cool ideas, sell their handmade goods, and even show off their amazing steampunk fashions. It was a great way for people who loved steampunk to connect and share their passion.
