The Monthly Offering was a special magazine published from July 1840 to December 1841. It came out of Boston, Massachusetts. This magazine was created to fight against slavery. It shared poems, music, and facts about the movement to end slavery.

The people who made The Monthly Offering wanted it to be cheap. This way, everyone could afford it. They wanted people to learn about slavery and how to stop it. The Monthly Offering was one of many anti-slavery magazines in America. Other famous ones included The Liberator and Freedom's Journal.

Who Made The Monthly Offering?

The main person behind The Monthly Offering was John A. Collins. He was an important abolitionist, which means he worked to end slavery. John Collins was born in Manchester, Vermont, in 1810.

He studied at college and a seminary (a school for religious studies). But he left those to focus on the anti-slavery movement. From 1840 to 1842, John Collins was a leader for the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society. This group was a part of the larger American Anti-Slavery Society. John Collins also worked on another newspaper called Monthly Garland.

Other writers also contributed to The Monthly Offering. One of them was Maria Weston Chapman.
