The Mouse Factory was a cool American TV show made by Walt Disney Productions. It aired from 1972 to 1973. The show was created by Ward Kimball.
Each episode of The Mouse Factory showed clips from different Disney cartoons and movies. Famous guest stars, called "Mickey's Friend," hosted the show. These guests included Charles Nelson Reilly, JoAnne Worley, Wally Cox, Johnny Brown, Phyllis Diller, Joe Flynn, Annette Funicello, Shari Lewis with Hush Puppy, Lamb Chop, Dom DeLuise, and Don Knotts. They would visit the "Mouse Factory" and interact with Disney characters. These characters were played by actors in costumes, just like at the Disney theme parks.
Later, in the 1980s and 1990s, the show was shown again on the Disney Channel.
The opening music for the show was a fast, instrumental version of "Whistle While You Work." This song is from the classic Disney movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
When the show ended, a funny scene played during the credits. Mickey Mouse would fly a biplane with a banner that said "the end." Then, a giant ape, looking like King Kong, would grab Mickey and his plane. The ape would then eat them! In the second season, this ending was changed. Instead, Donald Duck would simply say, "it won't work."
The song played during the end credits was "Minnie's Yoo-Hoo." This song was the original theme song for the first Mickey Mouse Clubs. Those clubs started meeting in theaters way back in 1929.
The Mouse Factory was canceled after its second season. This happened because not enough people were watching the show.
What Was The Show About?
The Mouse Factory was a unique show that mixed live-action scenes with animated cartoons. Each episode had a different theme. A celebrity guest would host the show. They would play a new character and talk with Disney characters. These characters included Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Tigger. Actors in costumes played these characters.
Every episode also featured several classic Disney short films. It also showed clips from longer Disney movies. Usually, there were about three short films and clips in each episode.
