Story of the Movie
The movie starts with an old man reading from a special book. He talks about a prophecy. This prophecy warns about a bad force called "The Nasty" coming to Fantasia. It also mentions a hero who will save everyone.
Bastian's New Life
Bastian Balthazar Bux is now older and in high school. His dad, Barney, has married Jane. They all move into Jane's house in a new neighborhood. Jane's daughter, Nicole, is not happy about having a new family.
At school, Bastian faces trouble from a group of bullies. They are called the Nasties, and their leader is Slip. Bastian gets them into trouble with the janitor. The Nasties had trapped Bastian in the boiler room.
Escape to Fantasia
Bastian runs to the library to get away from the bullies. There, he finds Carl Conrad Coreander and the magical Neverending Story book. The Nasties follow him to the library. Bastian uses the book to escape into Fantasia.
In Fantasia, he meets his old friends again. These include Falkor, the lucky dragon, and the gnomes Engywook and Urgl. Back on Earth, the Nasties find the Neverending Story book. They use it to cause trouble in Fantasia. They make fireballs and a big storm appear there.
Journey to the Wandering Mountains
Bastian and his friends, including a wooden Bark Troll, decide to go to the Wandering Mountains. They need to talk to the Childlike Empress. She asks Bastian to find the Neverending Story book. He can use the Auryn to help him.
Falkor, Barky, the gnomes, and Rockbiter's son, Junior, help Bastian. But something goes wrong. Too many wishes are made, and they all get scattered across Earth. Barky lands in a forest. Falkor saves Junior from falling near Mount Rushmore. The gnomes end up in Nome, Alaska.
Bastian finds Falkor and Junior. Falkor flies off to find the others. Junior stays at Bastian's house. Meanwhile, Rockbiter is sad that Junior is gone. The Nasties make Rockbiter and his wife argue.
The Auryn and the Mall
Nicole takes the Auryn from Bastian's room. She discovers it can grant wishes. She takes it with her on a shopping trip to the mall. Bark Troll arrives at Bastian's house. He is disguised as a garden plant. The Gnomes are mailed to Bastian in a box.
The reunited group goes to find Nicole. But the Nasties find the Auryn first. This causes giant crab-like creatures to appear in Fantasia. They try to harm the Empress and her friends. Everyone in the mall starts acting mean. This includes Mr. Coreander and Bastian and Nicole’s parents.
Bastian is hit by lightning and starts to feel controlled by the Nasties. But Nicole saves him. Bastian gets the Auryn and the book back after a fight. The Fantasians return to Fantasia. It becomes beautiful again.
Bastian and Nicole help their parents stay together. Junior is reunited with his parents. The next day at school, Bastian and Nicole find that Bastian has changed Slip and the Nasties. They are now friendly classmates. Bastian returns the Neverending Story book to Mr. Coreander.
