The Oddball Couple is a fun animated TV show that aired on the ABC network. It ran on Saturday mornings from September 6 to December 20, 1975. This cartoon was made by DePatie-Freleng Enterprises and Paramount Television. It was based on the popular live-action TV series The Odd Couple, which had just finished its run.
Meet the Oddball Couple
The Oddball Couple tells the funny adventures of two very different friends who live together. There's a neat and tidy cat named Spiffy, and a messy, lazy dog named Fleabag. Spiffy loves everything to be clean and organized. Fleabag, on the other hand, is quite untidy and doesn't care much about cleanliness.
Their different personalities are easy to see in their home. Their house is half fancy mansion and half old, broken-down shack! Even their car shows their differences: it's half shiny and new, and half rusty and old. They also have a secretary, Goldie Hound, who helps them in their shared office. Each episode of the show has two short stories, each about 10 minutes long.
In the original Odd Couple TV show, the neat character was a photographer, and the messy one was a sportswriter. In this cartoon version, Spiffy the neat cat is a writer, and Fleabag the messy dog is a photographer.
Episodes of the Show
The Oddball Couple had one season with 16 episodes. Each episode was split into two shorter stories, making a total of 32 segments. The show aired every Saturday morning.
