What Can You Discover at the Museum?
The Oxfordshire Museum has lots to explore! It has 11 different rooms, called galleries, filled with amazing things.
Collections and Exhibits
The museum shows off many different collections. You can learn about:
- Local History: How people lived in Oxfordshire long ago.
- Art: Beautiful artworks from the region.
- Archaeology: Old objects found in the ground that tell us about ancient times.
- Landscape and Wildlife: The amazing nature and animals of Oxfordshire.
There's also a special focus on the town of Woodstock itself, showing its unique past.
The Dinosaur Garden
One of the coolest parts of the museum is its large garden behind the building. In this garden, you'll find a special area called the Dinosaur Garden! Here, you can see real megalosaur footprints. These giant dinosaur footprints were found in a limestone quarry near Ardley, right here in Oxfordshire. It's like stepping back in time to when dinosaurs roamed the land!
Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum
In 2014, another museum opened right in the grounds of The Oxfordshire Museum. This is the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum (SOFO). It tells the stories of soldiers from Oxfordshire. In 2021, SOFO even started a project to build a life-size Anderson Shelter, which was a type of air-raid shelter used during World War II.
