History of the Museum
The idea for the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum came from two important people: Colonel Robin Evelegh and Colonel Tim May. They worked hard to make this museum a reality. The Evelegh Gallery inside the museum is named in memory of Colonel Robin Evelegh.
The museum officially opened its doors in 2014. A very special guest, the Princess Royal, helped open it. The museum cost about £3.2 million to build.
The main goal of the museum is to remember and honor the soldiers from Oxfordshire. It shares their stories and shows what their lives were like. You can find the museum inside the grounds of The Oxfordshire Museum. To get in, you go through the entrance of that museum.
