The Phantom of Pine Hill is an exciting mystery book. It's the 42nd story in the popular Nancy Drew Mystery Stories series. This book came out in 1965. Like many Nancy Drew books, it was published under the name Carolyn Keene. But the real writer was Harriet Stratemeyer Adams, who was a ghostwriter for the series.

The Mystery Begins

The story begins when Nancy Drew and her friends arrive at Emerson University. They are there for a fun event called June Week. There's a small problem with their motel rooms, but Nancy's friend Ned helps them out.

A Missing Necklace

Later, Ned and Nancy go to a dance. A young waiter named Fred accidentally spills drinks on Nancy's dress. After she cleans up, Nancy makes a surprising discovery. Her valuable pearl necklace is gone! This missing necklace starts a puzzling mystery for Nancy.

An Invitation to Pine Hill

Soon after, a man named John Rorick invites Nancy and her friends to his old mansion. John is from one of the town's first families. His historic home is located on Pine Hill.

Secrets of the Mansion

Once they arrive at the mansion, John Rorick tells them a strange tale. He explains that a "phantom" haunts the mansion's library. This phantom is a ghost that causes spooky things to happen.

The Lost Treasures

John also shares a weird family story. It's about a lost French wedding gown. Plus, there were valuable gifts and gold coins. All these treasures were lost when a ship called the 'Lucy Belle' sank. This happened a hundred years ago.

Hidden Passages and Suspects

Nancy, being a clever detective, starts looking for clues. She finds a secret passage leading to the library from the chimney. She also discovers a hidden shack nearby. Soon, Nancy starts to suspect Fred, the waiter, and his father.

Solving the Puzzle

While enjoying the university's June Week events, Nancy and her friends stay busy. They go to a river pageant and fraternity dances. But they also work hard to solve the mystery of Pine Hill. Their main goal is to find the long-lost wedding treasures.
