What Are The Pipers?

The Pipers are two impressive stones that stand about 2 metres (or 6.5 feet) tall. The distance between them is also around 2 metres. They are located about 120 metres west-south-west of the middle circle of The Hurlers.

These stones are very old, dating back thousands of years. They are a reminder of the people who lived in Cornwall long ago.

The Legend of The Hurlers

The Pipers are closely linked to the legend of The Hurlers. According to an old story, The Hurlers were once people playing a game called hurling. This game was a bit like modern-day rugby.

The legend says that these people were playing on a Sunday, which was considered a holy day. The Pipers were the musicians playing music for the dancers. Because they were all having fun on a holy day, they were turned into stone! The three circles of stones are the dancers, and The Pipers are the musicians.
