The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig is a fun picture book for kids. It was written by Eugene Trivizas and drawn by Helen Oxenbury. The book first came out in 1993.

This story is a funny, upside-down version of the old tale, The Three Little Pigs. Instead of pigs building houses and a wolf trying to blow them down, this book has three little wolves and a big, bad pig!

About the Book

Awards and Recognition

The book's illustrator, Helen Oxenbury, was highly praised for her work. She was a runner-up for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1993. This award celebrates the best children's book illustrations in the United Kingdom.

In the United States, The Three Little Wolves was also very popular. It became a number two best-seller on The New York Times list for picture books. It also won the "Parents' Choice Gold Award". Many libraries around the world have copies of this book. It has been translated into 15 different languages.

What People Thought

Publishers Weekly is a magazine that reviews books. They said that Trivizas filled the story with clever and funny parts. They liked how other animals helped the wolves find building materials. They also enjoyed the idea of the pig using a "video entrance phone" to make his threats.

The review also praised Oxenbury's drawings. They said her watercolors showed the story's humor very well. Her pictures captured the wolves' funny fear and the pig's angry poses. They called it one of the funniest "fractured fairytales" around.

The Story

The story is about three clever wolves. They decide to build their own houses. They try four different kinds of materials. First, they build a house from bricks. Then, they build one from concrete. Their third house is made of strong steel.

A big, bad pig comes along. He tries to huff and puff to blow down the houses. But the brick, concrete, and steel houses are too strong! So, the pig finds other ways to destroy them. He uses a sledgehammer for the brick house. For the concrete house, he uses a pneumatic drill. He even uses dynamite for the steel house!

Finally, the wolves build a house made of beautiful flowers. When the pig tries to blow this house down, he smells the sweet flowers. The lovely smell makes him realize how mean he has been. The pig changes his ways and becomes a good pig. In the end, the pig and the three little wolves become good friends. They all live happily ever after.
