The Transport Museum, Wythall is a super cool place to visit! It's a special museum that shows off lots of old buses, coaches, and other interesting vehicles. You can find it just outside Birmingham, in a village called Wythall, Worcestershire, England. A charity called The Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Trust (BaMMOT) first started running the museum.

How the Museum Started

The museum began thanks to a group called The Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Trust (BaMMOT). This group was formed in 1977. They found the perfect spot for the museum in February 1978. This land used to be part of an old RAF Wythall air base.

The first building at the museum was finished in 1980. The museum then opened its doors to the public in September 1980. More buildings were added in 1984, and a cafe opened in 1985. The museum kept growing! In 1990, a second big display hall was built.

Even more space was needed for all the amazing vehicles. So, another exhibition hall started being built in 2002. It finally opened in 2007. The halls were made even bigger with more extensions in 2012 and 2017.

In 2016, the charity changed its name to Transport Museum Wythall (TMW). It became a special type of charity called a charitable incorporated organisation. This helps them keep doing their great work.

What You Can See

The museum has three large halls filled with an awesome collection of old vehicles. You can see many preserved buses and coaches. These include vehicles from famous companies like Midland Red and Birmingham City Transport.

The museum also has a unique collection of battery electric vehicles. These are vehicles that run on electricity, like old milk floats! You can even see a special Tilling-Stevens petrol-electric bus. In total, there are over 90 vehicles to explore!

The museum is also home to the Elmdon Model Engineering Society (EMES). They run the Wythall miniature railway right there on the museum grounds. You can even take rides on their tiny steam trains! This fun railway was built in 1998.

In 2025, the museum received an Aurrigo Auto-Shuttle. This cool vehicle was originally built to test out driverless public transport. It's a peek into the future of travel!
